Welcome to My Health Journey—And Yours
Let’s talk about vulnerability. What does that word mean to you? Does it make you uneasy, or does it make you uncomfortable to think about being vulnerable? Webster’s defines vulnerability as the capacity to be physically or emotionally wounded. If you think about it, that sounds like we’re at risk all the time, right? But what if vulnerability could be a positive force in our lives, one that leads to growth?
For me, vulnerability means being authentic and present in the moment. It’s about learning and growing from my mistakes—and embracing them with grace. As a self-proclaimed perfectionist, vulnerability was something I resisted. But through my health journey, I discovered the power of being vulnerable. It’s what allowed me to trust my intuition, take control of my health, and ultimately, connect with others in a meaningful way. It’s our stories—our shared vulnerabilities—that bring us together, and it’s in that space that I found my health and my purpose.
My health journey truly began about 15 years ago when I was struggling to find balance and wellness in my life. I had been a “skinny fat” girl—someone who could eat anything and never gain weight, but with little muscle tone and lots of processed foods. After years of yo-yo dieting and calorie restrictions, I realized that this cycle was not sustainable. And in 2008, after struggling with weight issues, I took a nutrition class at Oregon State University. What started as a requirement turned into a newfound passion, and I switched my major to Health & Wellness. Little did I know, this class would not only change my career but my entire approach to living.
It wasn’t easy. Breaking old habits and confronting false beliefs that I had about health and wellness wasn’t quick or simple. But with time and persistence, I slowly healed my body and learned how to take care of it through nutrition and sustainable habits.
I didn't have a major health crisis to wake me up, but I did experience the challenges of weight fluctuations, the struggle to get pregnant, and a diagnosis of hyperthyroidism. Through research and self-advocacy, I discovered that certain foods were inhibiting my thyroid function, leading to more struggles. By switching those foods out, I healed my body, got pregnant, and my health was restored.
But the journey didn’t stop there. After having my baby later in life, I faced a new challenge—pregnancy cravings. Unfortunately, I gave in to those cravings, packing on weight and putting myself at risk for long-term health issues. It wasn’t until I saw myself in pictures, struggling with the extra weight, that I knew something had to change. I reached out to a coach—someone to help me stay accountable. And it was that support that made all the difference.
Now, I’m here to help you. As a health coach, I’m passionate about empowering women to take control of their health, just as I did. Whether it’s losing weight, managing stress, improving energy levels, or just feeling better in your own skin, I’m here to support you on your journey.
